Everybody Loves Jenifa – Review

It seems everybody truly loves Jenifa! The movie that kept us in anticipation for weeks finally hit cinemas on December 13th. Honestly, Funke Akindele’s relentless promotional efforts are nothing short of amazing. From branded T-shirts to custom cups, she seamlessly blends entertainment with impactful marketing strategies. Everybody Loves Jenifa was promoted so tirelessly that we were left eagerly wondering what the movie had in store.

Packed with star-studded performances, the cast includes Funke Akindele herself, Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Jackie Appiah, Bisola Aiyeola, Lateef Adedimeji, and Falz. With such an ensemble, you know you’re in for a treat!

Now, a bit about the storyline: Jenifa is basking in the success of her business and NGO. In a bid to expand, she approaches Mr. Lobster (Stan Nze), a man whose charity work has overshadowed hers, seeking a partnership. But he declines. Undeterred, she revisits him, only to witness a shocking act—Mr. Lobster striking his wife (Nancy Isime) into a coma. Being the fiery and justice-driven Jenifa we all know, she reports the incident to Madam Bassey (Bisola Aiyeola), a rights activist. However, Lobster’s sister-in-law, Ogechi, refuses to testify, leaving Jenifa to face the threats alone.

The film also takes us to the vibrant Eko Festival, where colorful displays of different tribes and cultures provide a visual feast. Amidst the joyful festivities, Jenifa reconnects with Toyosi (Juliana Oloyode), but their reunion is short-lived as they’re chased by menacing figures. This leads to a dramatic escape to Ghana, where trouble follows. Their apartment in Ghana turns out to be a drug stash point, sparking even more chaos.

True to Jenifa’s franchise style, the movie is packed with twists, drama, and humor. However, the pace of the film feels overly fast, with some scenes dragging unnecessarily and repeating already-known details. While the storyline occasionally lacks clarity, the actors undeniably bring their A-game. The dynamic between Shege (Falz) and Jenifa adds a touch of comedy and explores the challenges of love. Rex (Layi Wasabi) stands out for his seamless chemistry with Falz and Akindele.

On the technical side, the vibrant costumes, beautiful locations, and meticulous makeup all elevate the film’s cinematic appeal. Though not without its flaws, Everybody Loves Jenifa is an enjoyable holiday watch that’s perfect for laughter-filled relaxation.

If you’re looking for a lighthearted, energetic movie to lift your festive spirits, Everybody Loves Jenifa is a solid pick. Tickets are selling fast, so don’t miss out!
