Blow for Chelsea as Victor Osimhen agrees Napoli contract extension
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has reached an agreement in principle with his current club Napoli on a contract extension amid interest from top European clubs.
The 24-year-old striker will sign a one-year extension to his current deal, taking it to 2026 with a number new release clause according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The news comes as a blow to top clubs who were lining up to sign Osimhen, especially Chelsea who reportedly had concrete interest in a potential January move.
Osimhen’s five-year deal with Napoli was set to expire in the summer of 2025 which piqued the interest of clubs like Chelsea who hoped to use the situation to their advantage. The one-year contract extension probably does not stop Osimhen from leaving Napoli, it just gives the club much more leverage, especially with the release clause inserted.
Osimhen’s release clause is expected to be around €130 million which would make him the most expensive player in Italy and one of the most in the world when it’s met.
The Nigerian’s value is also increased by the fact that he just won the 2023 Africa Footballer of the Year Award in recognition of his incredible 2022/23 season.

Super Falcons of Nigeria goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has become the first African and Nigerian player to be crowned the best goalkeeper in the French D1 Arkema (women’s league).

Olise Open To Summer Transfer To Man United
Michael Olise would be open to a summer transfer to Manchester United should the Red Devils firm up their interest in him, 90min have been informed.
Despite battling through this season with various injury problems, the 22-year-old has remained one of Crystal Palace’s best players whenever fit.
It was initially reported that Olise was a transfer target for United this summer as he was admired by both the old and new regimes at Old Trafford following Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ onboarding.
The Red Devils could shift several players at the end of the season, Anthony Martial will leave when his contract expires, Antony could be sold and Christian Eriksen’s future is up in the air, and a versatile player like Olise would help cover the creative void from some or all of those departures.
90min understands that if United were to step up their interest, then Olise would be keen on joining the club.
However, despite reports suggesting otherwise, sources have told 90min that Chelsea do not currently plan to reignite their interest in Olise and they are not rivalling United for his signature this summer at this stage.
Olise signed a new contract with Palace last summer after the Eagles threatened Chelsea with legal action.
The Blues thought they had triggered a complicated £35m release clause in his previous deal, but this was not the case and so they backed away from a transfer, turning to Cole Palmer instead.
The Frenchman’s new contract is believed to contain another release clause which is close to his market value, standing between £50m and £60m.
